Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee on Monday set an ambitious target of 250 seats for the party in the next Assembly elections, significantly higher than the 214-seat goal he had set in 2021. Addressing party workers, he asserted that the Trinamool would strengthen its mandate and decisively counter its political rivals.
Taking a sharp swipe at the BJP, Abhishek criticised what he described as attempts by a party with limited legislative strength to impose social and cultural dictates. He remarked that a party with around 70 MLAs was trying to decide who could sell chicken rolls or patties, questioning its authority to lecture others on governance or values.
The Trinamool leader also rejected the BJP’s version of Hindutva, stating that his party believed in the inclusive ideology of Swami Vivekananda rather than the politics associated with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He underlined that Trinamool’s politics was rooted in pluralism, social harmony and respect for individual freedoms.
